Why IMA Bengal State created this

Every doctor in Bengal knows this feeling. A patient is upset, a letter arrives, and the profession you spent ten years preparing for suddenly feels uncertain.

Most of us want to reply at once, and on our own. That is usually the most expensive thing we can do. A hasty reply, a record not kept, a conversation nobody wrote down, and a matter that could have ended in weeks drags on for years.

Our Association has seen this happen to good doctors too many times. So we did not simply put our name on a product. We asked for two separate things, because our members face two separate problems.

The first is the notice, the query, the complaint that has not yet become a claim. Here you need advice, help writing the reply, and someone to check your paperwork, quickly and without a fresh bill each time. That is the risk management membership. It is a service, not insurance.

The second is when money is claimed from you. Here you need an insurance policy from an insurance company, one that pays for your legal defence and for any compensation you are ordered to pay. That is professional indemnity, arranged for members through a licensed broker.

We have kept the two separate on purpose, both in the paperwork and on this website. Mixing them up is how a doctor ends up thinking they are covered when they are not.

The best time to be protected is before anything goes wrong. Please take a few minutes to check your membership and see what is now available to you. Our aim is simple: that no member of this Association should have to face a notice, or a claim, alone, and that help should be within reach the day you need it, not weeks later.

Three organisations, three distinct roles

Who does what, stated plainly

This initiative is an arrangement between three organisations. You are entitled to know which one is responsible for what.

The Association

IMA Bengal State

Arranged this protection for its members and oversees the service standard. The Association does not itself underwrite insurance.

CoverYou
Insurance broker

CoverYou

An IRDAI-licensed broker. It arranges professional indemnity insurance for members. The policy is underwritten by an insurer, not by CoverYou.

CoverPrime
Risk-management service

CoverPrime

A membership service: risk management, legal and documentation support. CoverPrime is not an insurer, and a membership fee is not a premium.

Indemnity insurance is underwritten by an IRDAI-regulated insurer. A CoverPrime membership is a service contract, not an insurance contract. They are two separate agreements and are kept separate.

Why IMA Bengal State chose CoverYou

IMA Bengal State has represented the doctors of West Bengal since 1928. CoverYou is a professional-indemnity-focused insurance platform, already trusted by 2 lakh+ doctors and 120+ medical associations. Together, one promise: no IMA Bengal State member should ever face a medico-legal complaint alone.

100% indemnity focused, not a side business

CoverYou does one thing: protecting doctors. Policies, claims and legal support are all built around medical practice.

Association-negotiated group advantage

Members access pricing and benefits negotiated at the association level, better than walking into the open market alone.

Medico-legal defence, not just a policy PDF

Advocate within 2 hours, documentation support and court representation, end to end, in Bengal.

Under the oversight of IMA Bengal State

A dedicated member desk reports service standards to the Association. Your IMA is watching your back.

If you receive a notice

Six steps. You are never handling it alone.

Do not reply to the patient directly. Intimate us first, and the medico-legal desk takes over from there.

FAQ

Common questions

Is CoverPrime an insurance policy?+

No. CoverPrime membership is a professional risk-management and advisory service. It is not an insurance contract or financial product. What you pay is a membership fee, not a premium. Professional Indemnity Insurance is a separate product, underwritten by an insurer and solicited through CoverYou.

Is IMA Bengal the insurer?+

No. IMA Bengal provides member identity, communication and oversight of this initiative. Insurance is underwritten by the insurer named on your policy, and all claim decisions rest with that insurer. CoverYou acts as the IRDAI-licensed broker.

Do I need both, or can I take just one?+

You can take either on its own, or both. They are separate contracts with separate terms, separate pricing and separate transactions. The platform will never bundle them into a single payment or a single total.

What is a retroactive date, and will my continuity be preserved?+

The retroactive date is the date from which your past practice remains covered, provided cover has been held without a break. If you already hold or previously held a market policy, its details are captured during the Market Renewal journey so the retroactive date can carry forward, subject to insurer acceptance.

Is the price I see the final price?+

Prices shown before a quote are indicative starting prices from the approved association pricing. Your final payable premium is the figure confirmed by the insurer at proposal stage after underwriting. CoverPrime membership fees are shown separately and are not part of the premium.

My membership number is not recognised. Am I rejected?+

No. If the number cannot be matched automatically, you can upload proof of membership and an association administrator reviews it. A genuine member is never simply rejected by the system.

Can I use this platform in Bengali?+

Yes. The platform is bilingual in বাংলা and English, and you can switch at any time from the header. Legal and product wording in Bengali is professionally reviewed before publication.
